Duke Raoul
Post-rock atmosphere and swathes of synth wrap around spiky post-punk fury.
A kind of sunny melancholy drenching fits of energy. Quietly optimistic songs of love, ambition and modern life played with punk vigour.
Duke Raoul energetically combine influences such as The Cure, David Bowie, Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine in beautifully-crafted songs.
Brought together by Brighton’s well-documented musical gravitational pull, the four members of Duke Raoul (Alex Painter- vocals/guitar, Jez Berns- bass, Dan Harding- drums and Chris Griffin- synth/guitar) have cultivated a sound very much their own.
The band form part of the recently established Anti-Ghost Moon Ray collective, built around a blog by four like-minded Brighton-based acts (Gazelle Twin, Bernholz and The Enormous Shadow) with a shared DIY ethos of experimentation and artistic freedom.
They’ve been played on Radio One and Xfm and enjoyed rave reviews from the music blog world including the likes of the405 and The Devil Has the Best Tuna. The band have played sold out gigs with Esben & The Witch and Erland & the Carnival; and have supported acts including Sky Larkin and Stagecoach.
